Birmingham, AL – This Saturday, January 7th, the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice is hosting a community blood drive to celebrate the contributions of immigrants to our communities with caring and dignity.
Alabamians from all walk of life will donate blood as part of the ACIJ “One Heart, One Alabama” campaign. Participants will physically demonstrate that regardless of the heated rhetoric of hatred and division coming from extreme and wrongheaded political leaders, that we are one people, one family and one Alabama. ACIJ will also be hosting a series of community workshops during the blood drive.

Walk-in blood donors are welcome but we prefer that you sign up by emailing linn.groft@gmail.com with your name, phone number, and the time you would like to give blood, or register for an appointment online here.(Make sure 'ACIJ' is written in the Sponsor Code space.) You will need to bring your driver's license or two other forms of ID, though we will be happy to answer your questions about eligibility via email or at the drive.
Schedule of Events:
- 10:00 am – 4:00 pm: Blood Drive (Please sign up for an appointment ahead of time, although walk-ins will also be accepted.)
- 12:00 – 1:00 pm: Know Your Rights Training for Immigrants and Their Friends. (In Spanish; English translation provided upon request)
- 1:00 – 2:00 pm: Immigration System 101 Information Session. (in English)
- 2:00 – 3:00 pm: Taking Action Against HB56 Workshop. (In Spanish and English)
- All day: supervised craft activities for children.
The Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice is a network of individuals and organizations which seek to provide a united voice dedicated to ensuring the social, legal and civic rights of all immigrants in Alabama.
